DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES
To help our physicians make a timely and accurate
diagnosis, Community Hospital has a wide variety of
sophisticated diagnostic capabilities. These
include:
CT
Scanner
This valuable service which includes up-to-date spiral
technology is available for both routine exams and
emergency needs for requested body imaging.
Ultrasound
The ultrasound department provides complete abdomen and
OB/GYN services.
Cardiac and vascular ultrasound are available on a
scheduled basis.
Mammography
For
optimum health, you need to see the big picture, and at
Community Hospital, breakthrough technology lets us see
more than ever in your mammogram.
The leading
edge MaxView Mammography System allows our mammography
unit to image a greater volume of tissue, including the
chest wall and additional areas that other systems can
miss.
Community
Hospital is one of the few hospitals in Nebraska to
offer it. Early detection is key to successfully
treating breast cancer. The MaxView Mammography System
gives the radiologist up to 30 percent more tissue to
analyze for an earlier and more accurate diagnosis.
With a dedicated mammography unit staffed by female
technologists, Community Hospital provides studies that
are ACR accredited and FDA approved. For more information
on mammography and breast cancer see our

Krames Online,
the most up-to-date patient education resource.
Nuclear
Medicine
Nuclear medicine is the use of very small amounts of
radioactive material to diagnose disease. Nuclear medicine
can provide accurate images that aid in the study of
organs and tissues and how they work. The scans are safe
with about the same risk as a common X-ray. Only tiny
amounts of a short-lived radioactive material is used. It
can help detect a wide variety of conditions, such as
cancer, heart disease, arthritis and infection.
General
Radiography (X-ray) and Fluoroscopy
General Radiology is available for routine and
emergency services.
Fluoroscopy (live images) of body parts, are particularly
useful in visualizing things such as the gastrointestinal
tract.
Teleradiography
Teleradiology allows the transmission of images to doctors
at a remote site for interpretation 24 hours a day.
Magnetic
Resonance Imaging (or MRI)
Our permanent
MRI unit, a Siemens 1.5T Magnetom Essenza, provides more
detailed high-field images for physicians, and more
pleasant, faster MRI exams for our patients.
It has one of
the shortest designs available, allowing more patients
to be scanned with their heads outside the unit to ease
claustrophobia.
Highly
detailed images provide physicians accurate results for
a wide range of healthcare needs - from orthopedic and
sports-related injuries to cancer testing and more.
Mobile Bone
Densitometry
Community Hospital mobile home densitometry service helps
in the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis.
Mobile Stereotactic Breast Biopsy Service
An up-to-date procedure for breast biopsies that is less
invasive than conventional surgical biopsy.
Laboratory
The lab provides 24-hour service in the areas of blood
bank, chemistry, therapeutic drug monitoring,
bacteriology, hematology, urinalysis, serology, and
coagulation.
Respiratory
Care
This department provides services for inpatients and
outpatients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Services
include aerosol therapy, oxygen therapy, EKG's, holter
monitoring, pulmonary function testing, pulmonary rehab
and advanced life support including ventilator management.
Diagnostic tests include:
EKG -
Electro Cardiogram
This test is an electrical tracing of the heart. EKGs are
performed to rule out cardiac events and arrhythmias.
Holter Monitor
A holter monitor is a small recording device worn by the
patient for 24 - 48 hours. The test assesses abnormal
heart rhythms.
PFT (Pulmonary Function Test)
This 45-minute test is useful in the diagnosis of various
respiratory disease processes. Pulmonary function tests
include several different breathing maneuvers to assess
functions of the lung.
EEGs (Electro Encephalograph)
An EEG is a recording of the electrical impulses of
the brain by means of attaching electrodes to the scalp.
Sleep Services
Off-campus sleep laboratory,
Community Hospital Sleep Services, is located at
Southview Plaza, 801 West C Street, Suite 3, McCook.
