ACCREDITATION
Community Hospital has sought and received accreditation from Joint
Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) for more than 30
years . As a result of the most recent survey Community Hospital was awarded a
three-year accreditation ending March 2008 and the Joint Commission's Gold Seal
of Approvaltm. "We are pleased to have received the Joint
Commission's accreditation for so many years because we believe it holds us to a
higher standard of care," says Gary Bieganski, retired President of Community
Hospital.
"Above all, the national standards are intended to stimulate continuous,
systematic and organization-wide improvement in an organization's performance
and the outcomes of care," says Kurt Patton, executive director, Hospital
Accreditation Program, Joint Commission. "The community should be proud that
Community Hospital is focusing on the most challenging goal -- to continuously
raise quality and safety to higher levels." The Joint Commission on
Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) is an independent,
not-for-profit organization established more than 50 years ago. JCAHO is the
world leader in evaluating the quality and safety of care delivered in over
17,000 health care organizations across the country -from hospitals to home care
providers, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, outpatient clinics,
behavioral health centers, critical access hospitals and health care networks.
To maintain and earn accreditation, Community Hospital undergoes an extensive
on-site review by a select team of JCAHO professionals such as administrators,
physicians, and nurses at least once every three years. The purpose of the
review is to evaluate our performance in areas that affect patient care.
Through an assessment of the hospital's processes and personal visits with its
patients and staff, the hospital is evaluated and scored. Accreditation is
awarded based on how well Community Hospital meets JCAHO standards. Because
its standards are regarded as the most rigorous in the industry, hospitals that
choose to be evaluated by JCAHO are therefore committed to providing the highest
level of quality care to their patients.
