A day long diabetic seminar, “Diabetes Update” will be offered at Community Hospital on Tuesday, October 12 for nurses and healthcare professionals who care for individuals with diabetes in the inpatient and long-term care settings. It will provide participants with the latest knowledge on diabetes management.
Speakers for the seminar are Betty Weston, MS, RN, CCRN, CDE, and Karen Koch, BSN, RN, CDE. Weston is a Clinic Nurse Specialist from Hastings. As a Certified Diabetes Educator, she has presented many programs to clients and professionals on diabetes.
Koch works as a Senior Territory Manager for Animas Corporation with insulin pump sales and training. She travels the United States promoting pump therapy and has helped establish many insulin pump programs. She began instructing people in insulin pump therapy in 1994 and became a certified Pump Trainer in 1995. In 1997, Koch became a Certified Diabetes Educator.
The program begins with registration in Community Hospital’s Multi-Purpose room at 7:30 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. Contact hours of 7.2 have been approved for continuing education credit through the Nebraska Nurses Association. Cost of the program is $40.
