A Big Kids and Babies class is Sunday, July 24 at 2 p.m. at Community Hospital of McCook, according to Laura Reynolds, Licensed Practical Nurse and program coordinator. The free class provides information to siblings about new babies and explores what it will be like to have a new brother or sister.
The class will teach children how to hold a baby, along with covering basic baby care safety. Children will also be given a tour of the birthing room and nursery, and shown where Mom's room will be after the baby is born. In addition, they are shown a film, given handouts and will have their picture taken to put on the baby's bassinet.
"This class helps children overcome their fear of seeing Mom in the hospital after the baby is born. Since they have already been here, they know what to expect," Reynolds said.
The class is offered on a regular basis four times per year. "If possible, we recommend children take the class right before Mom is due, because the information is fresher in the child's mind," she said. Parents are invited to attend the class with their children. Pre-registration is suggested by calling Community Hospital at 308-345-2650. The next class is October 9. |
