Douglas Cairns, author of “Flying Solo with Diabetes” flew into Ogallala Airport on Saturday to meet Terri Shipshock, Community Hospital Health Foundation Director, for the delivery of 100 of his books. Monica Wacker, R.N., Certified Diabetes Educator for Community Hospital, will distribute the books at the annual diabetic health fair on November 8. The diabetic health fair will be held at the Red Willow Fairgrounds community building from 4:30-7:30 p.m.
In the book Douglas shares his quest to regain certification to fly solo after being diagnosed with Type I diabetes. His book captures the challenges and triumphs of his flight that brought recognition for diabetes around the world.
Community Hospital Health Foundation sponsored Douglas’s appearance at the Nebraska Fly-In at McCook Airport earlier this year and provided the grant to purchase Douglas’s books for the diabetic health fair. |
