The public is invited to an educational workshop and in-service on back pain to be held Thursday, September 4, at 6:00 pm at Community Hospital. Subways will be served.

Dr. David Benavides of Central Nebraska Spinal Surgery Center, P.C. in Kearney will present “Oh My Aching Back!—Back Pain and Treatment Options.” He will discuss:

• Kyphoplasty for compression fractures related to osteoporosis
• Using the XSTOP procedure for Lumbar Spinal Stenosis
• Other related back ailments

Registration by noon the day of the workshop is necessary by calling Community Hospital’s Info line at (308) 344-8255. Be prepared to state your name and how many will be in your party. You will be automatically registered.

Dr. Benavides is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in spinal surgery. His services include disk replacements, minimally invasive spinal fusions, kyphoplasty, vertebroplasty, carpal tunnel release, and spinal surgery, which includes herniated discs in the neck and back, spinal instrumentation, spinal fusions and spinal tumors.

Board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Benavides received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Galveston, Texas in 1988.

He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Scott and White Memorial Hospital, Texas A & M University, College of Medicine at Temple, Texas from 1989 to 1993.

Dr. Benavides also completed a fellowship in spinal surgery with South Texas Orthopedic and Spinal Surgery Associates, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Texas from 1993 to 1994.
