Community Hospital’s Limited Visitation Policy Lifted

Due to a significant decrease in the number of influenza-like illnesses in the area, clinics and the emergency department, Community Hospital has lifted the limited visitation restrictions and is going back to its normal visitation policy, according to Sharon Conroy, R.N., Community Hospital Infection Prevention Coordinator.

Beginning October 30, Community Hospital restricted visitors under the age of 18 into the facility since this population seems greatly affected by influenza. This decision was made in an effort to not only protect patients, but visitors, as well as hospital staff.

“Now that we are seeing a reduction in the amount of influenza cases, we are resuming our normal visitation policies,” Conroy said. She reminds visitors to not come to the hospital if they are not feeling well. “Please remember to cover your mouth with tissue when you cough or cough into your sleeve,” she said. “And always wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer as you enter a patient’s room and after you complete your visit.” To encourage its use, hand sanitizer is in every patient’s room.

The visitation restrictions did not affect anyone, even those 18 and under, from seeking treatment or participating in therapy at Community Hospital.
